Southernwood (Artemisia abrotanum) is a sun-loving plant species that greatly benefits from full sun exposure. This plant thrives when given at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Morning sun is especially beneficial in helping the plant to develop more vigorous growth. If the variety of southernwood is planted in an area that receives full sun or partial shade, it should be able to tolerate and even thrive in those areas.
