Grafted cherimoyas begin fruiting around year three to four, which is quite respectable for such an exotic tree. The unusual flowers need help with pollination — in the absence of their native beetle pollinators, hand-pollination with a small brush dramatically improves fruit set. They prefer frost-free subtropical conditions but tolerate light frost once established. The custard-like fruit is worth every bit of effort; Mark Twain called it the most delicious fruit known to man.
