Feijoas start producing their aromatic, pineapple-scented fruit about three to four years after planting. While some cultivars are partly self-fertile, you will get significantly better fruit set by planting two different varieties for cross-pollination. The edible flower petals are a bonus — sweet and slightly spicy, lovely in salads. In cooler climates they do best against a warm, sheltered wall. The fruit drops when ripe; just pick it up off the ground.
