Cropping Timeline
Hardy kiwi is a vigorous vine rather than a tree, and the wait for first fruit — typically three to four years — can feel longer because the plant puts enormous energy into vegetative growth first. You will need both a male and female plant for pollination (one male can serve up to eight females). The smooth-skinned, grape-sized fruit is sweeter and more aromatic than supermarket kiwifruit. Provide a very sturdy support structure; these vines are immensely powerful and long-lived. Issai is a self-fertile cultivar if space is limited.
