Cropping Timeline
Grafted oranges typically produce their first fruit within three to four years. They are self-fertile, so a single tree will crop. In temperate climates they make rewarding conservatory plants, though do not expect supermarket quantities — a good indoor tree might produce a dozen to twenty fruit, which makes each one feel rather special. They need winter minimum temperatures around 10C and good light. Blood oranges and navel types both do reasonably well in containers. Feed regularly with citrus fertiliser and watch for red spider mite in dry indoor conditions.
